As the years pass, your skin ages too: the skin around your eyes loses firmness and elasticity. As a result, your eyelids can begin to sag, leading to bags or wrinkles. This sometimes gives a tired or gloomy appearance, but it can also put pressure on your eyes and even cause headaches. People who smoke, drink or sunbathe a lot are more prone to such bags and wrinkles. An eyelid correction can relieve these complaints.
Treatment of droopy eyelids
Which procedure is appropriate depends on exactly where the cause of the drooping lies. There are several options.
SURGICAL PROCEDURES FOR CLINICAL CONDITIONS
Ectropion and entropion
With an ectropion, the eyelid turns outward, exposing the red inner surface. This can be cosmetically bothersome.
An entropion is the opposite: the eyelid turns inward, so the eyelashes rub against the cornea. This causes pain, irritation, light sensitivity and a gritty feeling, and the scratching lashes can damage your vision permanently. In both cases, surgery is needed to put it right.

Ptosis of the upper eyelid
With ptosis, the upper eyelid has dropped down, which can obstruct your vision. Sometimes only one eye is affected, resulting in a cosmetically bothersome asymmetry. Surgery usually puts this right quickly.
AESTHETIC PROCEDURES
Upper eyelid surgery
Here we remove the excess, sagging skin above the eye.
Lower eyelid surgery
Your lower eyelids can sag too. The fat from the eye socket then bulges forward and forms bags. A lower eyelid surgery addresses this
The procedure
All eyelid corrections are carried out here under local anaesthetic and are barely painful, if at all. For a procedure under local anaesthetic you do not need to fast; a light meal beforehand is fine.
After the procedure, you may go home straight away. Your vision may be a little blurry for the first few hours, so it is best to be accompanied. As the anaesthetic wears off, you might feel some mild discomfort, but that soon passes. Take it easy on the first day to recover; after that, you can pick up your usual activities again.
There are two ways to correct, soften or even completely remove your wrinkles. Both treatments are non-surgical.
Botulinum toxin injections: these weaken the muscles that cause the wrinkles, without paralysing them completely. They work both correctively and preventively. You see the effect within 8 days and it lasts 3 to 4 months.
Hyaluronic acid injections: this filler corrects folds that are not caused by facial expression. The effect is visible within 8 days and lasts 18 to 24 months.
How much does a treatment cost?
